A JAW-DROPPING bowling display from Peter Cassidy guided Prestatyn to a seven-wicket home success over Burscourgh.

The in-form Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One side surged up to fifth in the standings after a standout display from Cassidy, who produced the best performance of the season to help himself to an astonishing nine wickets in their triumph.

Cassidy got right to work with the new ball by disposing of the opening pair of Ryan Hughes and Chris Andrews for 11 and seven, before Matthew Wright (5), Josh Murray (0) and Mark Crowley (17) also fell victim to the seamer in the opening exchanges.

Skipper Gareth Boughey sent Lee Berrie back to the pavilion after the dangerous batsman made eight, and the irresistible Cassidy tore through the middle and lower order to scoop four more scalps in the form of Jon Stone (12), Alan Murray (2), Daniel Unsworth (0) and Kenny Hughes (0) to end a magnificent 18-over spell with figures of 9-28.

This ensured the hosts set a target of 76 all out, but the visiting run chase got off to a difficult start when Boughey was run out after contributing just 14 to the scoreboard.

Things got even more concerning when Danny Thomas and Daniel Williams were sent packing after failing to record a single run, but a superb knock from opener Ryan Westwell saw them reach their required target for the loss of three wickets after 12 overs at the crease.

Westwell managed to hit eight boundaries as he ended the day unbeaten on 51, and Boughey’s men will aim to continue their exceptional recent run of results when they travel to Ainsdale on Saturday.
