ABERGELE fell agonisingly short of securing an away victory as they played out a dramatic tie with Conwy.

The North Wales Cricket League Division One rivals played out a thrilling contest that saw them both emerge with a share of the spoils, and the visitors managed to post a total of 209-6 from their 50 overs at the crease.

Impressive scores from Gareth Edwards (46), Ben Garnett (34) and David Wilkinson (29) contributed significantly to their total, while Graham Meredith and Stan Senior helped themselves to three wickets apiece for the combined loss of 107 runs from their respective spells.

Home skipper Rajjenu Britto produced a stylish knock to put his side in the ascendancy, but he was removed by opposing captain Ed Rooney on 60 during a critical stage of the innings.

Ed Favill also gave the hosts a fighting chance with a promising 38, with David Wilkinson putting them in the driving seat with a 40 knock until they were both despatched by in-form bowler Lewis Tolond.

This left the home side needing just one run of the final ball to seal a victory, but Tolond produced the goods and skittled Senior for a duck with the final delivery to take his tally to 3-36 and ensure both sides ended on 206 in a sensational conclusion to proceedings.

Rooney’s men will look to build on a largely positive performance when they travel to promotion chasing Llanrwst on Saturday.
