A FIVE-wicket haul from Peter Cassidy guided Prestatyn to an impressive win at Birkenhead Park.

The Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One side came through a tricky road game with a comfortable five-wicket success, and Gareth Boughey’s men look to continue their recent impressive form this Saturday when they host Burscough at Beach Close.

Kieron New once again put the new ball to good use for the hosts, taking out Harry Meehan (9) and Chris Bellis (0) in quick succession, while Cassidy also got in on the act with the scalps of Chris Parker (9) and skipper Jonathan Crofton (5) soon after.

The gifted seamer took the crucial wicket of Ahmad Abdullah for 23, and Cassidy also despatched Chris Foran (16) and Alex Harris (40) late on to end another sensational 19-over spell with figures of 5-23.

New added another wicket at the other end in the form of wicketkeeper Steve Hird for seven to end on 3-71, while Boughey helped himself to a pair of wickets for the loss of 14 runs as the home side posted a total of 114 all out from their time at the crease.

The visiting run chase got off to a good start when Ryan Westwell made 21, and Boughey also kept the scoreboard ticking over with a contribution of 49 before he played an Abdullah delivery into the hands of Crofton.

Abdullah made a fight of things with the quick-fire wickets of Daniel Williams (4), Danny Thomas (0) and Joe Horton (0) to finish on 4-34, but an unbeaten 19 from Cassidy saw the game out and ensured the away side reached their required target for the loss of five after 28 overs.

There was no such luck for Prestatyn’s second unit, who suffered a heavy eight-wicket home loss to Caldy.
