PRESTATYN picked up their second win of the Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One season with a six-wicket home success over Wavertree.

The Beach Close side turned in a polished performance with both ball and ball to secure 20 points from their fifth outing of the campaign, and Gareth Boughey’s men now sit in eighth spot as they prepare to welcome Liverpool on Saturday.

The hosts made a fantastic start with the ball when Peter Cassidy trapped Tom Oughterson lbw for four, while Kieron New took out skipper Josh Birch after he contributed six.

Theo O’Brien steadied the ship with a knock of 27 before he was stumped by Robbie Rimmington off a Joe Horton delivery, and the same bowler also disposed of James Barron (3), wicketkeeper Josh Summer (8) and Phil Green (0) to end a sensational ten over spell with figures of 4-21.

A strong unbeaten partnership from Stewart Guy (28*) and Matt Nation (38*) ensured the away side restored some respectability and declared on 160-9 from their 64 overs at the crease, with Cassidy the pick of the other bowlers to finish on 2-63.

The home run chase got off to a moderate start through Boughey (16) and Ryan Westwell (23) until they were both despatched by Nation, with Sheil Sethi making a promising 27 before he played a Stewart Guy delivery into the hands of Birch.

Daniel Williams then put the hosts further in the ascendancy with an impressive 47, and unbeaten knocks of 18 and 25 from Horton and Rimmington ensured Prestatyn got over the line with minimal fuss and reached their target for the loss of four wickets.

The club’s second unit unfortunately had to concede their contest at St Helens, meaning they have been deducted ten points to leave them third from bottom in the standings.
