CPD Y Rhyl 1879 progressed in the FAW Amateur Trophy with a thumping 9-1 home win against Llysfaen on Saturday (August 3).
Those in attendance at Belle Vue honoured the victims of the Southport tragedy with an impeccably-observed minutes’ silence prior to kick off.
In an excellent start to the game, Jon Bravo found Jonny Taylor in the box with an inviting cross, Taylor making no mistake slotting the ball home within the first minute.
After just 14 minutes played, it was Taylor who was to then become creator, finding the influential Tom Kemp who made no mistake making it 2-0.
It was then club caption Reece Fairhurst who had then become provider, finding popular Jonny Bravo who made no mistake back heeling the ball past visiting goalkeeper Joshua Roberts.
Prolific front man Callum Parry was next to find the back of the net in the 39th minute.
Jonny Taylor got his second goal of the game on the stroke of half time, to see Rhyl in at half-time 5-0 up.
It took the Lilywhites just 10 minutes to find the back of the net following the restart, Tom Kemp securing his second goal of the game.
Just a minute later, Llysfaen forward Lee Fallas lifted the ball over the onrushing Josh Cooke, making it 6-1 with 56 minutes played.
With 68 minutes played, it was Callum Parry who got his second of the game, heading home from a Danny Clarke cross.
The roles were then reversed as Parry provided Clark with an opportunity to get on the scoresheet, Parry hitting the post, Danny Clarke following up making it 8-1 with 75 minutes played.
Substitute Sam Ashton scored the goal of the game finding the top right corner with an arrow like left footed drive to make it 9-1 and complete the scoring.
Following the game, Rhyl boss Gareth Thomas said: “It was a comfortable result, to be fair.
“But credit to Llysfaen; they kept going until the end. We rotated the side today, ensuring the entire squad gets minutes.
“The lads who came in today did an excellent job.”
Next up, the Lilywhites travel to Nantlle Vale in their second league fixture of the season on August 10 (2.30pm kick-off).
