A NEWLY formed under-6 football team in Rhyl is to be sponsored by commercial insurance brokers Gallagher.

Rhyl Hearts Junior Football Club ran free taster sessions in June of this year, which ultimately led to it forming three new teams, including the under-6s.

Gallagher’s logo will feature on the front of their kits after Daryl Jones, who works for the company, agreed to coach the team.

He said: “I had approached one of the coaches who had organised the June sessions to enquire about my son attending.

“I was told that, although all are welcome, there was no guarantee that a team would be formed as there was, and still is, a lack of volunteers to coach the teams.

“Having previously coached many years ago when I lived in Trelawnyd, I said I'd be happy to take on a team.

“I am fortunate that I work for the third-largest commercial insurance broker in the world, Gallagher, and approached my head of office, Dan Launder, about sponsoring the team.

“He agreed to do so, covering the costs of providing kits and training kits for Hearts Athletic players.

“Similarly, one of the parents of my players owns and runs St Asaph Hand Car Wash and Valeting Centre, and has kindly donated £500 to pay for training equipment that this group of players will benefit from for years to come.”
