CPD Y Rhyl 1879 failed to reach the top of the Ardal North West league after six goals were shared evenly between themselves and Brickfield Rangers at Belle Vue on Saturday (November 19).

A counter-attack by Brickfield on 25 minutes would open the scoring; youngster Harley Steel received the ball out on the left, cut inside and saw Luke Wilmot off his line, chipping the ball gracefully over him and into the goal.

The Lilywhites equalised on 39 minutes; Macauley Taylor, who had moved into the middle of the pitch from out wide, was the recipient of a wonderful ball sent in from James Jones, who dribbled from his own half to the Rangers by-line to deliver a brilliant cross.

Unbelievable team effort as Rhyl take all three points on the road

Rhyl started the second half with the bit between their teeth and on 52 minutes, Taylor was again in the thick of it.

He reacted to a blocked Chris Bennett shot from outside the box, and was able to get to the ball first and fire it in to put the hosts 2-1 up.

They then went 3-1 up on 73 minutes after Jordan Worthington, who came on moments before, turned and fired towards goal.

His shot was deemed to have been blocked by a hand and after a penalty was awarded, captain Reece Fairhurst stepped up and calmly slotted the ball low to goalkeeper Elliot Hall’s left.

Rangers pulled a goal back five minutes later, though, as Kian Davies was the first to react in a goalmouth scramble, lifting the ball into the roof of the net.

With eight minutes, to go the game was all square, after 19-year-old Portuguese youngster Greson Silva received the ball on the right and fired the ball low to Wilmot’s left.

He got a hand on it but couldn’t stop the ball from going in past him.

Late into the game, Rhyl’s Warren Adam was shown a second yellow card and was dismissed.

With 10 men, Rhyl attempted to throw everything at getting the winner but it just was not to be, and the game ended with the points shared.

The result would not see 1879 capitalise on their game in hand, and with yet another red card, will give manager Gareth Thomas more work to do ahead of a crucial match away at Denbigh Town on Friday night (November 25).
