CPD Y Rhyl 1879 recorded a thumping 6-0 win after making the short trip to Llandudno Junction in the NWCFA East Premier Division on Saturday (January 22).

This continued the streak that has now seen Gareth Thomas’ men secure three points in all of their previous 11 fixtures.

Veteran forward Carl Lamb took only 11 minutes to break the deadlock after some great build-up play from influential forwards Macauley Taylor and Kieran Ellis, with Lamb latching onto a great touch by Ellis to find the bottom right corner.

Then, 20 minutes later, Lamb found the net again, calling on his years of experience with a great right-footed finish into the top left corner following a Zac Tyler-Holland delivery.

Rhyl continued on the front foot for the remainder of the first half, with Jordan Worthington and club captain Reece Fairhurst striking the woodwork, before going in to the break 2-0 ahead.

And the second half continued in a similar vein, with Lamb taking just two minutes to complete his hat-trick as he bundled the ball past the line following an Ellis long throw.

Soon after, it was four, when Taylor produced a great finish, utilising his speed and strength to slot the ball across the goalkeeper into the bottom left-hand corner from the right-hand side of the box.

Thomas soon began to ring the changes with one eye on next weekend, with league leaders Llanefydd visiting Belle Vue, and on 69 minutes, substitutes Tom Cain and Leon Atkins combined brilliantly to secure the fifth goal, with Atkins crossing calmly to Cain, who stroked home the ball.

Taylor then got the opportunity to double his tally from the spot after a foul in the penalty area; the goalkeeper saved the penalty, well only for Taylor to react quickest and force the ball in from the rebound, making it 6-0 with 14 minutes to play.

The Lilywhites left the Flyover with this fantastic 6-0 result, ensuring they continue an excellent run of form that is unbeaten in the league and a run of wins now stretching to 11 in a row.

Thomas said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the performance; Carl Lamb utilising his experience to gain a fantastic hat-trick, and Macauley Taylor returning and looking sharp after an injury-hit season for his two goals.”

Next up for Rhyl 1879 is a visit from league leaders Llanefydd to Belle Vue next Saturday (January 29), in what will be the biggest game of the season for Thomas’ men, kicking off at 2pm.
