FOR four of Prestatyn Running Club’s ladies, Llandudno’s West Shore has never been such a welcome sight as it was on Saturday afternoon (April 27).

It marked the end of the 50-kilometre Coast Ultra race which started at 6am at the Nova, Prestatyn, and largely followed the coastal path with a few diversions towards Llysfaen and the Little Orme’s Angel Bay.

Conditions were perfect for the event, with a breeze to the runners’ backs, and the four – Ann Claire Jones, Cara Jones, Ally Reid and Nicki Triggs - all finished within 15 minutes of each other.

Prestatyn Running Club members take part in 16 races during busy week

Ann Claire led the quartet home and was second lady overall, with a time of 7-15.19.

In equal third place, just nine seconds behind, was Cara, with Ally fifth in 7-18.22 and Nicky seventh in 7-30.35.

Their effort came a week after another 50k ultra run by club member Cathy Wood.

She joined 500 other women in the unique She Ultra on the Llyn Peninsular, starting in Pwllheli and heading inland to Garn Fadryn and Botwnnog before heading along the scenic coastal path to the finish in Abersoch.

Cathy finished an excellent 225th in a time of nine hours and 20 minutes.

Three days before the Coast Ultra, Nicki Triggs, along with Ben Thomas, competed in the second race in the Wirral Seaside 5k, and the conditions were much better than for the first race.

Ben was 97th in 20.39 and Nicki 237th in 26.25.

Just 24 hours earlier, Ben was among a strong Prestatyn contingent in the 3 Hills race, the fourth event in the Joe Brown Tuesday Night series of fell races.

As the name suggests, it was an up-and-down course, with entrants having brought gardening gloves to assist  them on the steep, rough climbs.

The placings were: 11 Lee Bailey 34.41 (3rd M40), 56 Ben Thomas 43.34, 76 Gareth Jones 46.26, 98 Sophie Johnson 50.32, 102 Mandy Cartwright 51.39,  115 Mark Dakeyne 54.55,129 Ann Claire Jones 50.20 (2nd L50), 131 Liz Martin 61.14, 132 James Rogers 62.55.

On Friday evening (April 26), he joined a high quality field for the Mid-Cheshire 5k, coming 666th in 23.28, and the following morning, set a PB of 23.37 in the Nova Parkrun.
