WITH several Prestatyn Running Club members facing two races in just more than 24 hours later this week, they were able to take it relatively easy last weekend.

Athletes remained in the area, with 16 members competing in the Nova parkrun and no-one further afield.

There was a record field of 219 for the event.

Of the club’s members, three chalked up PBs, including Steve Stocker, who broke 19 minutes for the first time.

The placings were: 4 Steve Stocker 18.51 (pb), 10 Oliver Birch-Jones 20.35, 21 Darren Thompson 21.42, 24 Marc Jones 21.52 (pb), 35 Steve Weedman 22.42, 43 Helen Ashworth (1st female) 24.26, 46 Ben Thomas 24.37, 48 Andy Clark 24.44, 50 Andrew Scott 24.48 (pb), 62 Martin Gill 25.59, 65 Ally Reid 26.08, 85 Jo Lewis 27.29, 100 Rachel Jackson 28.30, 130 Nem James 31.49, 131 Ian Cummins 31.51, 135 Martin Cortvriend 32.09.

There was also a record field of 50 the following day for the Prestatyn junior parkrun, in which Tia Calland set a PB of 9.42, finishing fourth overall and first girl home.

Luke Bodman was the first of the club’s six representatives in last week’s Essar Chester half-marathon, which increases in popularity every year.

He finished 349th overall in 1-33.14, with Lisa Lines the club’s first lady home in 1-36.04 (430th overall).

Other placings were: 566 Marc Jones 1-39.33, 689 Steve Weedman 42.42, 1,965 Liz Martin 2-04.58, 2,797 Karl Martin 2-22.56, 2,876 Phil Roberts 2-23.28.

Last week, 35 members including several first-timers attended the annual social run in Rhewl, near Ruthin, which was followed by a buffet in the village pavilion.

This Thursday (June 1) sees the opening fixture in Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix in Shotton and the following evening is the Deganwy five-mile dash, and in recent years Prestatyn has claimed a substantial percentage of the competitors.
