Meanwhile, honours have come at the double for two of Prestatyn Running Club’s in-form supervets.

Gordon Jones and Martin Cortvriend were the club’s only representatives in the North Wales 5k championships in Llanrug and both won their age groups to become regional champions.

Gordon (M60) finished 19th overall in 18.49 and Martin was 48th in 21.43.

Both have been named in the Welsh Masters’ squad for an international in Tenby on July 3.

Gordon is in the M55 squad for the 5k and Martin, though 70, is in the M65 team for the 10k.

Though not yet back in full training after his Manchester run last month, Alex Ryder had another impressive outing in Sunday’s Port Sunlight 5k.

He came sixth overall in a fine 17.04.

Steve Skates was the club’s only representative in the Greenfield Valley Parkrun but did the red vest proud, winning in 18.11.
