Twitter users were reporting issues with the social media site on Tuesday afternoon.

Tweeters were left unable to navigate the site, post tweets or even log in to the platform.

According to Down Detector, issues started just after 3pm with people complaining that they couldn't get the app or website to load.

Problems with the social media site were recorded across the UK on Down Detector including London, Edinburgh and Manchester.

Of the problems reported, 75% related to problems with the app while 19% related to problems with the website.

A further 6% of problems were linked to Twitter's comments function.

One user on the Down Detector website noted:" Tweets showing but when you try to read the comments, all you get is "Something went wrong. Try reloading."

According to the heat map, the worst affected areas are Edinburgh and London.

You can use the heat map on Down Detector to see if you are in one of the worst affected areas via the Down Detector website.

Downdetector only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.

You can visit the Downdetector Methodology to learn more about how it detected problems.

There could be several reasons for why the social media app is displaying this message.

It could be something that's happened at Twitter including anything from Twitter’s server issues to corrupted user data.

But it could also be something you can look at personally. If you see this error, you can work through the following steps:

  • Try logging out and back into your Twitter account
  • Refresh the Twitter website on whatever browser you're using or re-install the app. You should also try using different browsers if it does not work on the first one
  • Check your network connection
  • Clear the Twitter Cache on your storage settings
