Wrexham AFC have announced the shock departure of chief executive Michael Williamson after just over two years at the club.
Club director Shaun Harvey will take over as acting chief executive following the unexpected change at the top.
Williamson joined Wrexham as CEO in 2024, shortly after the club had secured promotion to League One.
He subsequently oversaw another historic season as Wrexham sealed a third successive promotion, taking the club into the Championship for the first time since 1978.
Co-chairmen Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds have issued a joint statement on behalf of the board following Williamson’s departure.
They said: “We thank Michael Williamson for his two years at Wrexham and for his work taking the club from League 1 to the Championship.
“Since our takeover five years ago, Wrexham have had historic success on the pitch and won hearts all over the globe. We remain focused on our most important task: to make the Wrexham community proud.
“Shaun Harvey has been an integral part of this journey from the beginning, and we know Shaun will give every support to Phil Parkinson and the lads on the pitch while keeping the broader Wrexham community roaring us on.”
Harvey has been closely involved with Wrexham during the Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds era and is a director of the club.
The experienced football administrator previously spent almost six years as chief executive of the English Football League, having earlier held the same position at Leeds United and Bradford City.
He will now take over the day-to-day role as acting CEO following Williamson’s departure.

Williamson’s exit comes less than a year after Wrexham announced he had been named Football Industry Leader of the Year at the inaugural Global Football Industry Awards.
At the time, the club highlighted his role in its growth on and off the pitch, including the development of its academy and progress on the Kop development.
No reason for Williamson’s departure was given in the statement supplied by the club.
