A powerful new British drama exploring hope and human connection is set to hit the big screen in Prestatyn.

Amazing Grace will be shown at The Scala at 7pm on Monday, November 9, just days after its UK cinema release on November 6.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with writer, producer and co-lead Daniel P. Lewis and director Ruth Carney, hosted by Coronation Street actor and businesswoman Kimberley Hart-Simpson, who is from Rhyl.

Starring Hannah Walters, known for her roles in A Thousand Blows and Boiling Point, the film tells the story of Grace, a crisis helpline volunteer who forms an unexpected bond with Walter, played by Mr Lewis.

Daniel said: "This story is incredibly personal to me and one I’ve wanted to tell for a long time.

"We made Amazing Grace in Liverpool with an incredible cast and crew, and there were times when getting it to this point felt almost impossible.

"At its heart, this is a film about things we often struggle to talk about – trauma, shame, isolation and mental health, but ultimately it is about hope, connection and the possibility that being heard can change something."

As their conversations develop, Walter is forced to confront childhood trauma, addiction and shame.

The film marks the feature debut of director Ruth Carney, whose television work includes Shetland and Brassic.

Shot in and around Liverpool in just 11 days, Amazing Grace also features BAFTA-nominated actor James Nelson-Joyce, BAFTA winner Chanel Cresswell, and BAFTA nominee Sonny Walker.

Cast members Kelly Condron, Angela Lonsdale, Connor McIntyre and Raphael Murphy also appear.

The Prestatyn screening is part of a series of special events taking place across the UK, including in Liverpool, Leicester, New Brighton and Newcastle upon Tyne.

Amazing Grace has a running time of 85 minutes with tickets available on the Scala website.
