GET ready to ooh and aah! Llandudno's spectacular annual fireworks display is just around the corner, promising a dazzling night over the seaside town.
The much-loved event, dubbed the biggest in North Wales, draws thousands of people to the town every year and is one of the highlights of its calendar, bringing families together to enjoy an evening of spectacular pyrotechnics over the North Wales coast.
But behind the dazzling explosions and colourful skies is a huge amount of work – and a £42,000 bill to make it all happen.
Organisers have been calling on businesses to help support the event, with Llandudno Town Council's Fireworks Sub-Committee hoping to raise £5,000 or more through sponsorship.
Speaking to the Pioneer, Cllr Carol Marubbi, Chair of the Town Council Fireworks Committee, said: “I suggested that we need to try and get some money back, and a lot of the businesses make good out of this. I know it is only one day and one night, and I know people have criticised me with it being in the middle of the week, but at the end of the day - it is about the tide.

“It’s about keeping the businesses, letting them take part - this is their town and let’s do this.”
The £42,000 cost covers much more than the fireworks themselves. Organisers must also pay for safety barriers to protect the public, paramedics, security and public toilets along the promenade. The event must comply with relevant rules and safety guidelines, while there are also costs relating to highways.
Cllr Marubbi said: “It’s not necessarily the cost of the fireworks. It’s basically the health and safety - all the stuff that we have to go through. All the hoops we have to go through, it has gone bananas.
“We have been trying to do our best to get sponsorship and a lot of businesses have offered their support.”
This year's display is scheduled to take place at 7pm on Tuesday, October 27, from North Shore beach.
The back-up date is Wednesday, October 28, at 7pm.
The event is heavily dependent on the tides.
Cllr Marubbi is encouraging attendees to consider making a £1 donation towards the cost of the event.
“If everyone paid a £1, that would be about £24,000, £26,000. People just don't see the cost of it.”
The committee began contacting hotels and other businesses in September, with around half a dozen responding by an early committee meeting.
Businesses have been offered the opportunity to support the event through an advertising scheme, with logos displayed on signs around the promenade.
With visitors travelling from across the UK to watch the fireworks, she said the show continued to impress audiences year after year.
“I say to the lads every year, ‘What are you going to do to surprise me this time?’ and they bring it out of the bag all the time. It's amazing,” she said.
Cllr Marubbi also praised the team behind the display and the community groups who help make the event possible.
The event is organised by Llandudno Town Council, with support from Adam Williams and his team from Llandudno Pier and Tir Prince, as well as Conwy County Borough Council.
Cllr Marubbi, who puts an incredible amount of effort into the event every year, described Mr Williams, owner of Llandudno Pier and director of Tir Prince, as “her rock”.
“Without Adam, we couldn't do it,” Cllr Marubbi said.
“He is my rock and without those lorries, we just couldn't do it.”
For Cllr Marubbi, one of the greatest rewards is seeing families come together to enjoy the spectacle.
“Take anything that just brings the family together,” she said.
