A classroom extension project is progressing well and already making a difference for pupils and staff.

Ysgol y Castell in Rhuddlan, Denbighshire, is undergoing an investment of over £1.7 million extension and refurbishment scheme that began in the summer of 2025.

The project includes improvements to four existing classrooms, each gaining an additional 16 square metres of space—totalling 64 square metres of new, modern learning areas now in use.

Councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Education and Children, Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage said: "This extension and refurbishment project at Ysgol y Castell in Rhuddlan is set to provide improved space and updated learning facilities, with a total extension of 64 square metres added once complete.

"I am really pleased with the progress of this project, and we are already seeing some of the extra space and improvements being utilised by pupils and teachers. The project is on track for completion by the end of the year, in line with the original programme of works.

"This investment solidifies our commitment to providing high-quality education across the whole of the county and ensures that Ysgol y Castell’s pupils, current and future, will benefit from upgraded space and improved facilities for years to come."

External rendering and painting of the extension have been completed, with downpipe installation and yard painting set to follow in the coming weeks.

Additional improvements include a full replacement of doors throughout the school and upgraded firestopping measures.

Further decorative works linked to the new doors, along with remaining snagging and some firestopping works, will also be progressed during the October half term period.

It is being delivered by BrynBuild Ltd and funded through the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme, a developer contribution from the Tirionfa housing development, and Denbighshire County Council.
