Search the Public Notice PortalPLANS have been submitted to convert a former residential bungalow at a Flintshire hotel site into a gym and fitness facility for hotel guests and visitors.
The proposal by the Springfield Hotel, in Pentre Halkyn, seeks permission to change the use of "The Bungalow", a four-bedroom detached property within hotel grounds, into a dedicated fitness and wellbeing centre ancillary to the existing hotel operation.
The plans include a range of internal alterations and modest external changes, but no extension to the building.
According to planning documents, the single-storey building would retain its existing footprint, height and roof structure, with works largely limited to alterations to doors and windows to accommodate the new use.
The application states that the gym would complement the Springfield Hotel's existing hospitality offering and provide an additional leisure facility without requiring the construction of a new building elsewhere on the site.
Developers argue the scheme represents a sustainable reuse of an existing building and would support the continued attractiveness and viability of the established tourism business.
The planning statement highlights potential benefits for health and wellbeing through the provision of dedicated exercise facilities.
The documents also note that the building is currently used as a four-bedroom dwelling and that the proposed change would remove the potential for permanent residential occupation.
The application argues that the development would not create additional residential accommodation within the River Dee and Bala Lake Special Area of Conservation catchment.
Existing foul drainage arrangements serving the building would be retained, subject to confirmation that they remain suitable for the proposed use.
Planning agents say the development would enhance the range of facilities available at the hotel while making efficient use of existing infrastructure and built development already on the site.
A decision on the application will be made by Flintshire County Council at a later date.
