A new musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray will come to life on stage next month.
The production will be performed at the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl on Tuesday, October 20, as part of its first UK tour.
Kevin Kennedy, known for his roles in Coronation Street and Rock of Ages, leads the cast as Mr Isaacs.
Mark Middlemass, creator of the musical, said: "The idea has been with me for over 20 years – it’s a story I never stopped thinking about.
"My aim is to bring The Picture of Dorian Gray to the stage exactly as Wilde wrote it: in its original setting, with its original characters and dialogue, and told through music rather than interpretation.
"It’s been a long journey to get here but seeing it come to life in a musical production has been incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait for audiences to see and experience it in that form."
Described as "Sweeney Todd meets Jesus Christ Superstar with a dash of Jekyll & Hyde," the show promises a dramatic and faithful retelling of Wilde’s gothic classic.
It follows the story of Dorian Gray, a young man whose wish for eternal youth leads to his portrait aging in his place, reflecting the corruption of his soul while he remains outwardly unblemished.
The 13-strong cast will bring Victorian London to life with a powerful original score and classic staging.
The musical stays true to Wilde’s original novel, capturing the darkness, decadence, and moral complexity of the story.
The production has already generated interest online, with its original soundtrack streaming more than 500,000 times across digital platforms ahead of its stage debut.
Tickets are on sale now, starting at £27.50.
The Pavilion Theatre, a modern 1,031-seat venue, has hosted a wide range of national and international artists, including Sir Bryn Terfel and Katherine Jenkins, as well as top West End productions like Chicago.
It also supports community theatre and school productions.
The current building is the third theatre to stand on the seafront site, with the first dating back to 1891.
It is also home to the 1891 Restaurant & Bar, a popular dining and events venue named after the original theatre.
The Picture of Dorian Gray: A New Musical will be performed at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 20.
Tickets are priced between £27.50 and £35.50 and are available to book at rhylpavilion.co.uk.
