Search the Public Notice PortalTHE MP for Clwyd East has quashed "completely false" rumours that the close Pontins site in Prestatyn will be used to house asylum seekers.
Becky Gittins (Labour) also criticised the "unacceptable" conduct of those spreading such rumours.
Prestatyn Sands, which was run by Pontins’ parent company, Britannia Hotels Ltd, shut in November 2023, having been open since 1971.
Preparatory work is underway regarding development plans for the site, with the aim of re-opening a holiday park on the land as soon as possible.
Mrs Gittins said: "The rumours circulating online about the former Pontins site in Prestatyn being used for asylum accommodation are completely false.
"I have again confirmed today with Britannia Hotels, the owners, and with Denbighshire County Council that there are no such plans in place.
"Britannia has advised that the activity currently taking place at the site relates only to surveys and assessments as part of their work towards a long‑term future for Pontins.
"Pre‑application proposals have been submitted to planning officers for a new family holiday accommodation and tourism development, and the site continues to be used by local emergency services for training while it remains unoccupied."
Britannia Hotels has submitted a pre-application proposal for the site to Denbighshire County Council.
The council said in May 2025 that it has “no current plans” to serve Britannia with a compulsory purchase order for the land on which Prestatyn Sands is situated.
Mrs Gittins added: "What is of serious concern is the deliberate spreading of misinformation. These posts are being pushed onto large social media pages without any verification, using racist language and attempting to provoke hostility.
"This behaviour is causing unnecessary alarm for residents and mirrors similar incidents across North Wales.
"This conduct is unacceptable. I strongly condemn those who are seeking to create tension and fear in our community.
"I urge residents to be vigilant about misinformation online and to check the accuracy of claims before sharing them. The posts identified have been reported to the police.
"Prestatyn deserves clear, factual information about the future of the Pontins site.
"I will continue working closely with the owners, the council and local partners to ensure residents are kept informed and that the long‑term future of the site is handled responsibly."
