AN ASDA superstore has been given a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.
The store at St Asaph Avenue North, Kinmel Bay, called the "Rhyl superstore" by Asda, was given the score following an inspection on July 23.
The Food Standards Agency said the supermarket required "major improvement" regarding its management of food safety.
This refers to the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the confidence a food safety officer has that standards will be maintained in future.
The store's hygienic food handling, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage, was rated 'improvement necessary'.
Its cleanliness and the condition of its facilities and building was 'generally satisfactory'.
Asda said the inspectors were now "satisfied" with work taken to rectify the issues identified and that it would apply for a re-inspection.
An Asda spokesperson said: “We’d like to reassure customers at our Rhyl superstore that since this inspection in July, we’ve worked closely with the inspecting officer to address the points raised, and they have confirmed they are satisfied that these have now been resolved.
"We will be applying for a re-rating and expect this to better reflect the high standards we set.”
