A PUB in Meliden has re-opened under new management after being closed for six months, with plans to host "living funerals” at the venue.
The Red Lion, on Ffordd Talargoch, shut in February, having been run by the Devlin family, but has been taken on by Ali Akbar, who also runs The White Lady Beer House on Sandy Lane, Prestatyn.
A living funeral is a celebration of life held for a person who is still alive, often chosen by people with terminal illnesses or of an elderly age.
The Red Lion held a soft opening on Monday, August 10, while the pub kitchen is expected to be operational again soon.
A free shuttle bus service, running between The White Lady and The Red Lion, has also been launched.
Mr Akbar said: “It has been a great success; people have loved it so much.
“The kitchens are currently being designed and developed, and will be fully operational in two weeks. The old dining room is now a games room, and an outdoor pizza oven is coming soon.
“Meanwhile, Ben Devlin is back on the scene with his catering truck in the car park - I’m going to knock a few curries up when I get a minute, which will add another string to his bow.
“We have bookings for our speciality ‘living funeral service’ - also, bar mitzvahs, weddings, traditional funerals, christenings, baby showers and ghost hunting nights are all to play for.
“A free bouncy castle service is on offer all day every day so that we can create one whole community - and the pool table is free, as well.”
Mr Akbar has roughly 30 years’ experience of running pubs.
