A RESIDENT of Rhyl who illegally dumped household waste has been fined £250.
The resident was found responsible for fly-tipping household waste on Elwy Street in the west end of Rhyl.
The fly-tip, which consisted of multiple black bags containing domestic waste, was reported to the Council's Environmental Crime and Behaviour Change Team.
Working closely with local residents and reviewing CCTV footage from the area, officers were able to gather evidence that led to the identification of the person responsible.
Following the investigation, the council issued a £250 Fixed Penalty Notice.
Rather than pursuing prosecution through the courts, the council issued the Fixed Penalty Notice as an alternative means of dealing with the offence.
Fly-tipping is a criminal offence that blights local communities, harms the environment and places an unnecessary financial burden on taxpayers through the cost of clearing illegally dumped waste.
Denbighshire County Council said it is committed to taking robust enforcement action against those who choose to dispose of waste illegally.
Jonathan Brittain-Hughes, Environmental Crime Manager for Denbighshire County Council, said: "Fly-tipping is completely unacceptable and we are committed to taking action against those who spoil our communities by disposing of their waste illegally.
"This case demonstrates the importance of working in partnership with our communities. Information provided by local residents, together with CCTV evidence and a thorough investigation by our officers, enabled us to identify the offender and take appropriate enforcement action.
"We want to thank those residents who came forward with information. Their support plays a vital role in helping us tackle environmental crime. We would encourage anyone who witnesses fly-tipping or other environmental offences to report it to us, as every piece of information can help us identify those responsible.
Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, added: "Our message is clear – fly-tipping will not be tolerated in Denbighshire.
"If you choose to dump waste illegally, you risk receiving a Fixed Penalty Notice or being prosecuted."
