AN electric minibus is powering a cleaner, greener future for public transport in Prestatyn.

The eco-friendly vehicle was introduced under the Fflecsi demand-responsive transport scheme, which helps residents make short, convenient trips into the town centre from surrounding residential areas.

Denbighshire County Council’s passenger transport team and Transport for Wales secured the electric minibus following the end of the previous operator contract.

Councillor Barry Mellor, lead member for environment and transport at Denbighshire County Council, said: "Our fleet service works hard where appropriate to replace fossil fuel-driven vehicles with greener alternatives to help lower carbon emissions in the county and also support lower long-term running and maintenance costs.

"We are pleased to be given the opportunity to provide the vehicle ourselves for Fflecsi Prestatyn, as we do for Ruthin and Denbigh, and help support a greener, more modern mode of transport for local residents to use and enjoy."

The new service, rebranded as the 44 since July 6, operates from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Denbighshire County Council, which declared a climate and nature emergency in 2019, now operates more than 20 per cent of its fleet as zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).

The council’s fleet service, which already operates electric vehicles for the Ruthin and Denbigh Fflecsi schemes, has been transitioning fossil fuel vehicles to electric with support from UK and Welsh government departments.

The new Ford E-Transit minibus offers a range of up to 250 miles, eight passenger seats, full accessibility, and wheelchair support.

The transition is expected to cut emissions, reduce running costs, and strengthen the council’s sustainability efforts.

Residents can book the service by calling 0300 234 0300 or using the Transport for Wales app.
