Denbighshire County Council has introduced the measure on The Roe, St Asaph, to facilitate gas mains replacement works.
Northbound traffic is not permitted along the affected stretch, which runs from the A525 Bodelwyddan roundabout to the junction with High Street.
The southbound lane remains unaffected.
The order took effect on July 27 and will remain in place for up to 18 months, although the works themselves are expected to be completed by August 19.
An alternative route is signposted, taking traffic along the B5381, Ffordd William Morgan, St Asaph Business Park service road, crossing the St Asaph Business Park bridge, onto the A55, and returning to the A525 Bodelwyddan roundabout.
The works form part of essential maintenance being carried out by Wales & West Utilities on the gas network.
