A NEW national scheme is set to make family outings more affordable.
The UK government’s Great British Summer Savings scheme aims to cut costs on meals, entertainment and attractions.
With the school holidays approaching, the scheme offers reduced prices on children’s meals, cinema and theatre tickets, and entry to theme parks, soft play centres and other attractions.
Gill German, MP for Clwyd North, said: "Summer should be a time for families to relax and spend quality time together, not worry about the cost.
"This scheme will help families across Clwyd North enjoy affordable days out at some of our fantastic local venues, while also supporting the businesses that are at the heart of our community."
In Clwyd North, families will benefit from discounted entry to popular destinations such as the Strand Cinema, SC2, Pavilion Theatre and Manorafon Farm Park.
Jo Stevens, Secretary of State for Wales, visited Rhyl with Ms German to launch the scheme and highlight its impact on families and tourism.
She said: "It’s great to treat the kids to a day out to somewhere like the Strand Cinema in Rhyl when they’re off school over the summer.
"So, from 25 June to 1 September the UK Government is making it cheaper."
Chancellor Rachel Reeves said the scheme was part of a wider effort to help with living costs.
The scheme runs from June 25 to September 1 and forms part of the UK Government’s broader cost-of-living support.
Other measures include a £117 reduction in energy bills and a freeze on prescription charges, fuel duty and rail fares.
Chris Wilkes, group property manager for Merlin Cinemas, said: "Merlin Cinemas are delighted to be taking part in the Great British Summer Savings scheme, including our Strand Cinema here in Rhyl, where families will get great price reductions on children’s film tickets and food.
“We all know that summer can be an expensive time for families, so we’re really pleased to be able to play our part in making those fun things to do more affordable."
Eligible activities will see VAT temporarily reduced from 20 per cent to five per cent.
