A MULTI-million-pound food hall and market will celebrate its first birthday in regal style with a tribute to rock legends Queen.
Queen’s Market in Rhyl will mark one year since opening its doors on July 10. The landmark development was seven years in the making.
The tribute to Queen - Queens Alive - will take place on Friday, July 10, from 7pm. The event is free to attend and open to everyone, including families.
A statement on social media by Queen's Market said: "You’re invited to Queens Market’s first birthday party.
"Come celebrate with us it’s a free event, so grab your friends and join the fun.
"Expect amazing food, great drinks, and a proper party atmosphere all night long.
"We kick off at 7pm, see you there."
The journey to create the multi-million-pound food hall and market was long and complex.
Plans to redevelop the former Queen's buildings – including the Savoy Hotel and Fusion nightclub – first emerged in 2018.
Denbighshire County Council acquired the dilapidated seafront buildings in 2019. The four-storey buildings had no active uses on the upper floors and significant vacant space at ground level.
Despite a number of setbacks and challenges along the way, the project was eventually completed, with the food hall – featuring a double-sided bar and flexible event spaces – opening its doors to the public last July.
The Queen's Market has submitted plans to Denbighshire County Council to extend its alcohol licence and create an outdoor bar area.
The licence application states: "The application is to submit a new plan to extend the licenced area for all licensable activities which will include a small outdoor bar for the sale of alcohol.
"To amend the provision of late-night refreshment from indoors only to both indoors and outdoors."
Members of the public have until July 9 to make representations regarding the application. These can be submitted in writing to the Licensing Lead Officer, Planning Public Protection and Countryside Services, Denbighshire County Council, PO Box 62, Ruthin, LL15 9AZ.
