Search the Public Notice PortalA PRE-APPLICATION proposal for the redevelopment of the old Pontins site in Prestatyn has been submitted, its owners have said.
Prestatyn Sands, which was run by Pontins’ parent company, Britannia Hotels Ltd, shut in November 2023, having been open since 1971.
In October 2024, it was reported that work is underway regarding development plans, with the aim of re-opening a holiday park on the land as soon as possible.
Demolition work to one of the temporary structures at the site, formerly used as an indoor skate park, has already started.
Britannia Hotels made its first public statement on the matter in April and has today (June 26) provided a further update.
A spokesperson for Britannia Hotels said: “We continue to undertake surveys, assessments and site management activities at our three vacant Pontins sites (Prestatyn, Southport and Camber Sands).
“This forms part of our work with an appointed planning consultancy to develop pre-application proposals.
“These have now been submitted to planning officers at the respective local authorities and we are awaiting dates to discuss their feedback.
“This will enable us to progress the proposals and secure positive long-term outcomes for all sites.”
Britannia representatives have previously met with Becky Gittins, MP for Clwyd East, and Cllr Jason McLellan, leader of Denbighshire County Council, to update on its progress in this regard.
Denbighshire County Council said in May 2025 that it has “no current plans” to serve Britannia with a compulsory purchase order for the land on which Prestatyn Sands is situated.
Britannia has a 978-year lease on the land, meaning that unless a compulsory purchase order is served, it is solely at Britannia Hotels’ discretion as to what happens with the site.
