A SCHOOL in St Asaph will close early today (June 25) due to the hot weather.
Ysgol Glan Clwyd has informed parents that school transport will pick up pupils from 2pm.
An amber heat warning is in place for North Wales until at least Thursday (June 25), with fellow Denbighshire school, Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant in Rhyl, closed today.
In an email to parents, shown to the Journal, headteacher Sian Alwen wrote: "I am writing to you early in the morning to confirm that school transport will come to pick up your child from school at 2pm today.
"With the temperature of the day rising throughout the afternoon we believe it would be wise to close earlier.
"It has not been an easy decision but several factors have led to this.
"Many adjustments were made to yesterday's timetable and to normal school processes and these proved to be successful.
"These adjustments will continue today regarding school uniform, timetabling and access to water fountains.
"I trust that this early message will help ensure your child's safety this afternoon as he/she returns home.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and make a decision regarding Friday as soon as possible.
"Take care in this extreme weather and stay safe."
