Denbighshire to increase car park charges across the county

The local authority has revealed plans to increase charges at 23 car parks across the county from July 6.

The proposed increases range from 20p to £2, depending on the length of stay and location.

For example, at Queen Street car park in Rhyl, motorists currently pay 80p for up to 30 minutes, £1.50 for up to one hour, £3 for up to three hours and £8 for stays of more than three hours between 8am and 11pm.

From July 6, those charges will rise to £1 for 30 minutes, £2 for up to one hour, £4 for up to three hours and £10 for stays exceeding three hours.

In some locations, charges will fall. At Prestatyn Railway Station, for example, motorists currently pay 80p for up to 30 minutes, £1.50 for up to one hour, £3 for up to three hours and £8 for stays over three hours between 8am and 11pm.

From July 6, charges will remain £1.50 for up to one hour and £3 for up to three hours, but parking for more than three hours will fall to £4.

A notice titled “Amended Initial Charges On-Street and at Pay and Display Car Parks” states that charges across various locations in Denbighshire will be revised under sections 35C and 46A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Regulation 25 of the Local Authority Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations.

A second notice under the same title covers additional car parks in Prestatyn and Rhyl, including Barkby Beach, Beach Road East, Nova Rear, Nova West, Central, East Parade, Pavilion Theatre and Sky Tower as well as on-street parking on Rhyl Promenade.

At Sky Tower car park, for example, the charge for stays of over four hours in summer (8am to 5pm) will increase from £5 to £6. In winter, it will rise from £3 to £4.

Rhyl Pavilion Theatre car park will also see increases, with the charge for stays of over four hours rising to £6 in summer and £4 in winter.

Over the summer, on-street parking at Rhyl promenade will increase from £1.50 to £2 for up to an hour, £4 to £5 for up to four hours, and £5 to £6 for over four hours.
