A NEW dog grooming salon in St Asaph has opened after a planning application was granted approval.
Applicant Avery Hutchinson submitted a change of use proposal to Denbighshire County Council, concerning a unit within The Old Courthouse, a larger multi-occupied building on Chester Street.
The unit in question was formerly a hairdressing salon - planning permission was granted by the council on Friday (May 29).
Avery James Grooming Studio will employ one part-time member of staff, and its opening hours will be 9am until 6pm from Monday to Friday, and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.
Mr Hutchinson wrote in his planning application: “The remainder of the building will continue in its existing lawful uses and is unaffected by this proposal.
“The proposed use comprises a small-scale dog grooming business operating on a pre-booked, appointment-only basis, typically accommodating approximately three to six dogs per day.
“The number of dogs present at any one time will be limited and carefully managed to prevent accumulation and ensure a controlled environment.
“Dogs will generally be groomed and collected within their allocated appointment period, although this may occasionally include more than one dog from the same household being accommodated within a single booking.
“There will be no boarding, daycare, or overnight accommodation of dogs. Any temporary containment of dogs on site will be limited to short periods directly associated with the grooming process and collection within the same appointment.
“No external alterations are proposed to the building. All grooming activities will take place internally within unit/room three.
“The nature of the use is comparable in scale and activity to a personal service use such as a hairdressing or barber premises, involving washing, drying, and cutting within an enclosed indoor environment.
“The proposed use is appropriate for a town centre location and will not give rise to significant noise, disturbance, or adverse impact on neighbouring occupiers within the building or the surrounding area.”
