An announcement about the future of Doctor Who is on the horizon, according to the show's current showrunner.
Russell T. Davies, 63, confirmed on BBC Radio 2 that a press release regarding the next Doctor will be issued soon.
Mr Davies said: "You will get an announcement.
"There is a press release lumbering through the BBC which, as you know, is like the Jurassic period and 57 people have to sign off on every single word.

"I promise you in about a week, two weeks, there will be some sort of press release, and yet I can hear the gears slowing down even as I say that.
"You know this place."
The confirmation comes amid ongoing speculation following the conclusion of the most recent series in May 2025, which ended with Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor seemingly regenerating into Billie Piper, who previously played Rose Tyler.
Billie was not credited as the Doctor in the episode, leaving fans questioning the nature of the regeneration and the identity of the next Doctor.
Rumours have since circulated about the timing of the next episode, with reports suggesting the traditional festive special could be delayed until Easter 2027.
Mr Davies stopped short of addressing those claims directly but assured listeners that news is imminent.

He also spoke about the scope of his work as a showrunner, describing it as "running everything," but emphasised the support of a large team.
Mr Davies said: "Please don't think it's just me, as much as I like to claim otherwise."
Billie fuelled further speculation with a recent statement about her return to the series.
