GWRYCH Castle and Conwy Pirate Festival have joined forces for what promises to be a spectacular swashbuckling event this May.
A full-blown immersive quest packed with mystery, mischief, and a dash of legendary treasure will take place at the Gwrych Castle Pirate Festival on May 30 and 31.
The I'm a Celebrity castle, near Abergele, has collaborated with Conwy Pirate Festival, in particular Rodney Davies, one of the organisers for the event, who will stage festivities on June 13 and 14 in the walled town of Conwy.
Set high above the North Wales coastline, Gwrych Castle has long been connected to the maritime world - from the movement of people and goods along the coast, to the wider seafaring heritage that shaped the region.
A spokesperson for the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust said: "We’ve worked closely with Rodney who runs our ghost walks, and also played Santa for us at Christmas.
"Rodney is involved in the pirate festival in Conwy and during a casual chat in January, he mentioned that he’d love to bring the pirate festival to the castle. It was discussed at one of our staff meetings and everyone was excited. All the staff have brought costumes to attend the event.

For the pirate invasion at Gwrych Castle, the scenario goes that long ago, Countess Winifred hid a collection of priceless jewels within the castle grounds. Though many of her treasures were gifted to the church, her greatest secret was never found… until now.
During recent works, a mysterious clue has been uncovered and word has spread.
The event will feature:
- Interactive treasure hunts
- Pirate games and roaming characters
- Live cannon and musket demonstrations
- Sea shanties echoing through the castle grounds with Wombat & Muttley
- Family friendly immersive storytelling and activities

The event will help support fundraising for the ongoing restoration of the castle.
Gwrych Castle will be open daily from May 23 to May 31.
The Pirate Festival will take place on May 30 and May 31.
