An acclaimed adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption starring famous faces across TV is coming to Mold.

Bill Kenwright Ltd has announced that The Shawshank Redemption, based on Stephen King’s 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, which was famously adapted into an acclaimed film starring Tim Robbins and MorganFreeman, will continue its national UK tour in 2026, with performances at Theatr Clwyd from May 12 to 16.

Adapted by Owen O'Neill and Dave Johns, this live theatre rendition deals with themes of desperation, injustice, friendship, and hope within the stifling confines of a prison.

TV personalities Joe McFadden, Ben Onwukwe, and Bill Ward lead the cast for the production.

Joe McFadden takes the role of Andy Dufresne, a man wrongly accused and convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover, who is given a double life sentence.

Despite protesting his innocence, Dufresne is locked away in the notorious Shawshank facility, where he quickly learns the harsh reality of needing allies to survive.

McFadden is known for his performances in Sex, Chips & Rock'n'Roll, Heartbeat, and Holby City.

He also won the 2017 season of Strictly Come Dancing with professional partner Katya Jones.

Ben Onwukwe plays Ellis "Red" Redding, a seasoned prisoner and a fixer within the Shawshank facility, whose friendship brings a touch of redemption for Andy.

Onwukwe started his acting career with the RSC and the Royal Court and has worked across a spectrum of TV roles, including playing Recall McKenzie in London's Burning for 11 years, and Jackson Donckers in Professor T.

Bill Ward stars as Warden Stammas, the corrupt prison leader who exploits Andy's accountancy skills.

Ward is famous for his roles in Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

He has also made his mark on numerous West End productions.

The show further features Graham Elwell (Bryan Hadley), Ashley D Gayle (Rooster), Jeffrey Harmer (Entwistle), Kyle Harrison-Pope (Tommy Williams), Kenneth Jay (Brooksie), Sean Kingsley (Bogs Diamond), Samarge Hamilton (Rico), Aein Nasseri (Nelson), and Owen Oldroyd (Dawkins).

The 1994 film adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, received seven Academy Award nominations and has since then become a favourite among moviegoers.

The National Film Registry has described the film as "culturally, historically, aesthetically significant".
