'Great British Pub Crawl' visits pubs in 'wonderful' Prestatyn

Dale Harvey, a former pub landlord from Nottingham, set off on a quest to visit every pub in the UK about four years ago as part of "the Great British Pub Crawl".

Mr Harvey chronicles his trips on social media, sharing selfies outside the pubs he visits on a daily basis - you can see what he thought of Prestatyn here.

Having already visited Rhyl, and 21 pubs in the town, his next stop was Prestatyn, where he checked out 13 more pubs and bars.

He said of the Prestatyn crawl: "After a super day in Rhyl, it was a very short trip along the coast for yesterday's adventure as I headed over to Prestatyn.

"Trying to make opening times work was a headache as usual, with a few places quite spread out, but with the exception of Bar 300 that just opened a bit too late for me to be able to make work on that side of town, I think I managed to get a good hit at it.

This is what he thought of each pub in Prestatyn:

The Beaches Hotel Promenade Bar

"I got over to Prestatyn for just before 12 and there was only one place I wanted to kick things off today - 'Promenade Bar & Bistro' sat right down at the beach where the sun was shining and the waves were rolling in!

"This is basically the restaurant for The Beaches Hotel but you can dine and drink as non-residents and it has a great outdoor space overlooking the sea.

"I grabbed myself some Whitebait for lunch (exceptional) and gazed out to see with a beer in hand... what more could I need?"

The Ffrith

"I then headed over to 'The Ffrith' as it made sense to tick some outskirts pubs off first... This one looks like it used to be a 'Sizzling' pub from the signage but now looks like it might be owned by someone else.

"Split into two sides with a large dining space in one side and a pool table and screens on the other. No cask sadly, just a similar keg range to most of what I found in Rhyl yesterday."

The Jolly Sailor

"Up next was 'The Jolly Sailor' which sits in a car park next to a little supermarket.

"A big, spacious and tidy pub with big screen for the sport and 2 pool tables. A nice friendly lady on the bar and a 'karaoke corner' suggesting this is a right little party pub! No cask on sadly."

The White Lady

"I then headed down to the station and on the bottom side of that is 'The White Lady' which is a belter of a pub!

"This one does have two top notch cask ales on and is housed in what would have once been the back bar at the former Victoria Hotel.

"A lovely young lady on the bar and couple of regulars in who were also lovely... a top vibe and really great look to a super old pub that has some beautiful features."

The Cook House

"On the other side of the station is 'The Cook House' which is a pub and carvery place. They've got an excellent out door space that is a real sun trap and a great smelling carvery offering.

"Young lady on the bar very welcoming and friendly and their ice cream counter looks particularly appealing on a hot sunny day."

The William Morgan

"Next along was 'The William Morgan' owned by Stonegate. This one boasts three really good cask ales (unusual for a SG pub to have so many good ales on at once) and plenty of screens all across the pub for the sport.

"Staff are great and there's a nice little suntrap beer garden space to the rear. The pub is dog friendly and of course you can get your MIXR points whilst you're there."

Torello Lounge

"About 50 yards up from there and on the same side is the local Loungers brand place which here is known as 'Torello Lounge' - one difference from English to Welsh lounge brands seems to be Tiny Rebel's Clwb Tropica present on the taps in place of Old Mout as you would find in the English ones... ideal for me!

"Aside from that slight difference on the bar, they are pretty much the same... with loads of those brilliantly garish lampshades and awful paintings."

The Hideaway

"My next stop was a little added bonus that I hadn't expected to get into... 'The Hideaway' but the owner very kindly offered to open up just for me so that I could include it in the days activity!

"A lovely looking cocktail bar this, that has been going for around 8 years! Snazzy cocktails that look great on the 'gram for photos and a Sunday night karaoke that is becoming a thing of legends... top little place run by a top lady."

Archie's

"Next up is 'Archie's' and they also opened their doors on a day that you wouldn't normally catch them, just for me!

"Another super venue that even has a nightclub above it! Top landlady who's been here a very long time and seriously knows her stuff! Two great local cask ales and plenty of weekend entertainment on offer."

The Raven Bar

"It was then time to head up to today's sponsors... 'The Raven Bar' which is a café bar in style... but a serious beer house in offering!

"Some belting cask ales on (of which Timothy Taylor's Landlord is on permanently alongside the other two rotating options) and even some craft beer amongst the kegs!

"The guys running the place are fantastic, full of enthusiasm and knowledgeable and passionate about what they offer. A top bunch of locals and a really lovely vibe."

Cross Foxes

"Opposite that is 'Cross Foxes' which is actually the oldest pub in Prestatyn and dates back to the 17th century!

"Now owned by Marston's (so the beer offering is what lets it down slightly) this former coaching inn has a brilliant garden space to the rear, two dart boards and a pool table. Lad on the bar was a great lad and the locals were top notch! A nice little bit of Prestatyn history for sure."

HQ Pencadlys

"For the final Prestatyn stop itself, it was a short walk along to 'HQ' which is a fully functioning hotel and another serious beer house... These guys have four fabulous cask ales on offer alongside a decent tap range!

"The beer garden is a fabulous space as well and they have just installed a pizza over out there all ready for the summer months which is sure to be a real hit with the locals! A wonderful place from top to bottom."

The Miners Arms

"I then took a 20-minute stroll up to one of the smaller areas known as Meliden where there is currently just the one pub open... 'The Miners Arms' as I had it on good authority that this was also a top pub for some top cask ale... and I was certainly not disappointed, finding three great ales... including Bass (the king of cask) and Butty Bach amongst them... unusual to find Butty so far away from its home as that is usually confined to the West Midlands sort of area... but that goes to show what a great job these guys are doing! This is a beautiful looking, old village pub and a real hive of activity."
