A NEW pub has celebrated opening its doors in Rhyl.
The Nelson, which is based at the former home of The North and Tinkers Bar on Wellington Road, welcomed customers for the first time on Saturday (April 25).
It is being run by Abbie Nelson, 30, who previously ran The Cove, on Water Street, prior to its closure in 2023.
Abbie, who is from Rhyl and worked as a carer after The Cove shut, said the aim is to turn the premises from a late-night venue into a “daytime pub,” and will be supported by her partner.
She said: “We were still decorating five mins before opening on Saturday, but it was a really good first day. We were busy as soon as we opened!
“We had a lot of families in, we put on a free barbecue, and (singer) Joe Leo went down well. The feedback was great - everyone loved it, and said how much brighter and more chilled it is.
“We’ve still got loads to do, but we’re doing it as and when we can. We’re looking at starting to do food, and putting more lighting up.”
The pub’s opening hours will be 12pm to 12.30am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, and 12pm to 1.30am from Thursday to Saturday.
It will be “dog-friendly” until 6pm, while children aged 10+ will be allowed in until 8pm, but must always be accompanied by an adult.
Quiz nights will be held every Thursday at 7pm, while bingo will take place on Sundays at 7pm, starting on May 10.
The pub will also be joining a winter darts league, while new signage will soon be put up at the front of the premises, Abbie said.
She added: “Everything’s at our discretion, so if you want to have a pint in the beer garden, and have a well-behaved dog or a child, we’ll let you.
“We had 12 days to get it ready – the beer garden and the toilets have been done up, and there’s all new furniture and flooring, dart boards, and a pool table.
“New lagers will be on draught from next week, and for bank holiday weekends or special events, we’ll be open until 3am.”
