THERE are artists whose music stays in the background of life, and others whose songs seem to become part of it. Mike Peters belongs firmly in the latter group.
One year on from his death on April 29, tributes continue to reflect a life defined not only by music, but by resilience, generosity, and an enduring connection with audiences.
Mike died on April 29 2025 at the age of 66 from blood cancer. He had lived with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia for more than 30 years, continuing to tour, record, and campaign throughout much of that time.
Thousands of fans gathered in Dyserth on May 29 2025 to say their final goodbyes as he was laid to rest in his hometown. Supporters travelled from around the world to celebrate his life at the Parish Church of St Bridget and St Cwyfan, where moments of reflection were shared alongside music, laughter, and tears.
Mike’s wife Jules and sons Dylan and Evan were applauded by fans as they entered the church.
Jules has recently returned from leading a new Love Hope Strength trek - El Camino Rocks 2026, which took in the historic Portuguese route of the Camino de Santiago and concluded at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
“On Sunday when I returned home to Wales with my boys by my side I felt broken, unlocking the door and for the first time Mike wasn’t here to welcome me home,” she said.
“Due to Mike’s pneumonia diagnosis in 2023 I have hosted many hikes all by myself without Mike by my side so I coped fine hosting the trek. However, in contrast I have found this week extremely difficult.”
Jules had hoped to complete the Camino journey alongside her husband.
She added: “I’m very tired after the trek and April 29 is one whole year without Mike. I understand why I am upset.
“For those following in my footsteps I think I can say that the one-year point is tough. It’s the harsh reality that our loved ones are never coming back and it’s the shocking realisation that life will never be the same again.
“But at the same time I have a responsibility to my boys, my parents, my close friends and family to stay positive, practise gratitude and keep moving forwards.”
Paying tribute last year, Jules described Mike as her “true love” and said she was “made for loving him.”
Mike’s death prompted widespread tributes across the music world and the UK, where he was recognised not only as a defining figure of 1980s alternative rock, but also as a tireless cancer campaigner and MBE recipient.
Among the most visible honours since his death has been the naming of the Mike Peters Arena at Rhyl’s Queen’s Market, a lasting tribute in his home region of North Wales. He was also honoured by The Recording Academy, which included him in its In Memoriam segment at the 68th GRAMMY Awards, recognising artists and music professionals who had passed away.
Continuing his father’s musical legacy, 19-year-old Evan has taken to the stage in recent months, fronting performances connected to The Alarm and appearing at events such as The Gathering in Cardiff — the long-running fan convention and music celebration originally curated by Mike himself.

In his final days, Mike spoke to Jules, Dylan, Evan, and tour manager Andy Labrow, urging them to “keep The Gathering going and The Alarm legacy,” adding: “You can’t let the fans down.”
Since then, Evan has continued to develop his own path within music, writing and performing while increasingly stepping into live roles associated with The Alarm. His presence on stage has been widely seen as a continuation of his father’s spirit, carrying forward songs that have meant so much to fans for decades.
Alongside this, Jules has taken on the role of Love Hope Strength President - an honorary position Mike previously held with pride - while Dylan has joined the charity’s trustee board, further embedding the family within the work that has long run alongside Mike’s musical career.
