4 dogs available to adopt at North Wales rescue centre

North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) have cats, dogs, horses and some smaller animals, all hoping to find their forever home.

The staff and volunteers at the Trelogan-based charity, in Flintshire, know the animals as individuals, and therefore know what kind of home they are more likely to thrive in.

Whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit or horse, staff are on hand to advise on the character and suitability of each.

They also make sure potential new owners are aware of the ongoing costs of a pet, including food and vet bills, which can often be for unexpected treatment.

But thankfully there are plenty of responsible, loving people and families looking to give an animal a loving new home.

And there are always animals of all types, ages and needs that will be the perfect match.

Here we meet just some of those at NCAR looking for a new home...

Could you adopt Lily?

• Lily is a really sweet girl who was handed in as a stray. Sadly she wasn’t in very good physical condition and was very underweight but with regular small meals and a decent diet she is now starting to look and feel much better. About six-years-old, Lily loves people and has been friendly with everyone she has met, she has started to go out for short walks with our volunteers and really enjoys them - she equally loves running around our secure paddock and playing with toys. She can be rehomed with sensible children aged 10+ in her next home, she can be quite snatchy around food so children must be savvy around dogs. Lily has met a couple of dogs at the rescue and can be quite tense and unsure when meeting them, so we feel she will be best as the only pet in the home, we will keep assessing and socialising her during her stay with us. She is very sweet and cuddly and will thrive being the centre of attention in a home environment.

Spyro is looking for their new family.

• Spyro is a friendly, little chap that came to us as a stray. Unfortunately no one has come forward to claim him or provide history so he is now looking for his forever home. Spyro is a very friendly boy, that came be a little timid initially but generally a confident lad. He can be a little timid with men but this is improving with us. He likes his walks and he is an active boy, so he will need a home where he can get lots of exercise and be out exploring. He walks well on lead, and will say hi to other dogs on walks. He can be timid and barky with larger breeds but he does settle well. He can be rehomed as the only dog (so he can have all the attention!) or with another dog smaller dog. We will do dog mixes here at the rescue to make sure all dogs are happy. He is a very affectionate boy and loves a good fuss, we do think he may have separation anxiety in the home as he is needy and can cry in his kennel. He will be suitable with a family who won’t leave him alone and take him on adventures. He can be rehomed with children aged 8+ who can get involved in his training and give plenty of love. About a year old, Spyro does have a common issue affecting chihuahua, which is inverted sneezing. It is common with smaller breeds and mostly harmless but please research this before applying for Spyro. We are walking him on a harness to reduce the pressure on his neck, he is a wiggly boy when trying to put his harness.

Jessie hoping to find their forever home.

• Seven-year-old Jessie is a sweet girl who was returned to the rescue as her owners were unable to cope with her behaviour. She has sadly been in and out of our care for a few years now, so we’d really love to find her the perfect match soon. In the home she is described as being perfect, she is fully housetrained, friendly with visitors and loved sunbathing and playing ball in the garden. She is a very cheeky, lovely girl who loves a cuddle and a good run round playing hide and seek. She does love her toys as well, and chasing tennis balls. She can be quite reactive to other dogs on walks or passing outside. She is gen-con trained, so she is easier to manage once you know her traits and with good lead control, she walks beautifully. When she first came to us, she joined off-lead mixes with multiple dogs and was very playful, however an incident in a home caused her to become very nervous and fearful of dogs. It is larger breeds that Jessie is reactive to, so she needs quieter walks where she can have calmer walks to do plenty of sniffing. We will give full advice and support with this as she settles into her new home. She is a gorgeous girl who will flourish in the right environment. She travels very well in the car, settles at night and during work hours. Jessie is very nervous and reactive to veterinary treatment, especially areas around her neck, ie, holding her collar and spot-on treatments. We can explain this in further detail with anyone interested.

Scout is hoping to find their forever home.

• Scout is a handsome boy who came into our care after being found as a stray. Unfortunately he wasn’t claimed so he is now looking for his new forever home. Eight-year-old Scout is a friendly boy who enjoys meeting new people and getting lots of attention. He loves his walks and taking his time sniffing anything and everything, and splashing in puddles! He can be quite strong on lead at times but he is gen-con trained. However, he will require further lead training when he goes to his new home. He can be vocal towards other dogs when out and about and will pull towards them and be can quite strong when doing so. He is looking for a home with people who are willing to work with him in this area and walk him in quieter areas to start with. All training and guidance will be given by the NCAR team. Scout is looking for a home with sensible older children 14+ and as the only pet in the home. Since being in our care, we have noticed Scout unfortunately doesn’t have very good eyesight and he does have quite weak back legs. But we really hope this doesn’t put off potential adopters as he is a very cheeky and cuddly boy. He will only require shorter walks or plays in the garden.
