A NEW 12‑hole crazy golf course featuring a volcano and a moon rocket has opened in Ruthin — bringing a burst of family fun to The Centre on Lon Fawr.

The £26,000 attraction is the latest addition to the community site run by Katie Edwards and her husband Paul, which already includes tennis courts, junior football pitches, a GymPod, a driving range, bowling green, footgolf and a 1.1‑mile countryside walk.

Katie, who runs the new course, said: “It was something we wanted to add to the facilities on offer here and it provides fun for all the family in nice surroundings and alongside so many other facilities.”

Installed by St Asaph firm Groundcare 360, the project was supported by an £18,000 grant from Cadwyn Clwyd, with further backing from the Pendine Arts and Community Trust (PACT). The course is open 11am–4pm at weekends and during school holidays, with putters and balls included in the price — £4.50 for adults, £4 for children, and just £2 for extra rounds.

Katie said the aim is to offer something different for the Vale of Clwyd: “There are plenty of crazy golf courses on the coast but very few inland, so it’s quite unique here. We’re hoping it will attract interest from businesses too because we have so many facilities here with two large indoor rooms as well as all the other activities.”

She and Paul took over the main hub of the site after he began running fitness classes there. “We enjoy a challenge and doing something different and believe it has plenty of potential,” she said. “We hold parties and events, and local organisations hold meetings here.”

The Centre also has a licensed bar, catering options, and a café area open until 9pm for vending machine use, while other activities — including tennis and the driving range — run late into the evening. The site is also pushing to become fully renewable, with solar panels already installed and 16 allotments on offer.

Paul, a personal trainer, leads public classes and private sessions. “I take PT classes, one on one, or one on two people, and then we have got classes that we do here at The Centre,” he said.
