A NEW pub is set to open its doors in Rhyl later this month.
The Nelson, which will be based at the former home of The North and Tinkers Bar on Wellington Road, plans to welcome customers for the first time on Saturday, April 18.
It will be run by Abbie Nelson, 30, who previously ran The Cove, on Water Street, prior to its closure in 2023.
Abbie, who is from Rhyl and has worked as a carer since The Cove shut, said she plans to turn the premises from a late-night venue into a “daytime pub,” and will be supported by her partner.
She said: “It’ll be a completely different venue – we’re getting rid of the dancefloor and the DJ box, and are putting in two new pool tables and four professional dart boards.
“There will be loads of new beers put in at cheap prices, as well. We’re hoping to open on April 18, but there’s loads of work to do. We’re refurbishing the beer garden and the pub itself.
“I had The Cove for four years, so I just want to rebuild what I used to have.
“It’s going to take a lot of work, as it’s been a night-time venue for such a long time, but the vision I’ve got for it is to be a traditional daytime pub.”
The Nelson’s opening times will be 12pm to 12am from Sunday to Wednesday, and 12pm to 1am from Thursday to Saturday.
It will be open during the upcoming Easter weekend (Thursday to Sunday, 9pm to 3am – DJs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday) on Tinkers’ old premises licence, before closing again until the relaunch.
Tinkers was the subject of an application by North Wales Police for a review of a premises licence due to concerns including public safety and nuisance (the premises is also next-door to Rhyl Police Station).
This application was made to Denbighshire County Council’s licensing sub-committee, and accepted at a behind-closed-doors meeting last October.
With this in mind, Abbie added: “I’ve invited police and licensing to do a walk-round before we open, just to make sure they’re happy, and we all set off on a good footing.”
Tinkers had appealed the decision, which meant it could remain open until 3.30am as previously while that appeal was pending.
