Search the Public Notice PortalA BODLEWYDDAN-based construction firm is celebrating its 100th anniversary after a period of rapid growth that has seen turnover increase by 250 per cent in just two years.
Wynne Construction was founded in 1926 by Charles Wynne. The fourth-generation family business has expanded from its roots in public-sector housing into an innovative, multi-sector contractor, now delivering landmark projects across education, healthcare, leisure, and commercial developments.
Under the leadership of managing director Chris Wynne, the company has experienced substantial and sustainable growth, increasing its turnover by 250 per cent in the past two years.
Projects include the multi-million-pound transformation of Bodelwyddan Castle into an outstation for the National Portrait Gallery, the redevelopment of Coleg Cambria’s Wrexham city centre campus, and the delivery of clinical schools at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Ysbyty Gwynedd, and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

Current multi-million-pound schemes include the Specialist Resource Base at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf in Cardiff, the leisure and wellbeing centre in Newport, Kings Moat Primary School in Chester, and extensions for orthopaedic services at Llandudno General Hospital.
Last year, the firm earned recognition as one of Wales’ 50 fastest growing businesses.
Chris Wynne said: “Reaching our centenary is a remarkable milestone.
“Our success today is built not only on the dedication, expertise, and passion of every member of our team, but also on the strong foundations laid by my late father, Maldwyn and his father Charles, whose hard work and vision helped establish the business and the values that have guided us for the past 100 years.
“With my sons David and Richard now as directors, I’m confident we will continue to enhance our services, strengthen our efficiency, and broaden our appeal year after year, while delivering sustainable growth for generations to come.
“Even more importantly, I hope we continue to hear encouraging feedback from our clients, many of whom value and recognise our dedication to providing outstanding support, not just during project delivery, but long after as well.”
Chris was introduced to the family business more than 40 years ago under his father Maldwyn’s leadership.
He added: “When I first joined the business, we were typically managing around three schemes at a time. Today, we have approximately 20 active sites across Wales and North West England, which is a remarkable achievement.”
A key focus for the company is sustainability, with Wynne Construction reducing its scope one and two carbon emissions by more than 50 per cent, as part of its roadmap to achieving net-zero by 2040.
Chris added: “Our vision extends beyond building projects. Through the Wynne Futures Foundation, we continue to create career pathways for the next generation, engage local subcontractors, and deliver meaningful social value in the communities we serve.”
To mark its centenary, the company will host a staff celebration, plant 100 trees with local biodiversity groups, and support charities such as Maggie's Cancer Centres and North Wales Superkids through a year of fundraising events.
