FOUR members of Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council have joined Reform UK.
Cllrs Luke Knightly, Dave Johnson and Geoff Corry have defected to the party, as well as Cllr Deborah Mulvaney, who is serving as mayor of Towyn and Kinmel Bay during 2025-26.
They are the only Reform UK representatives on Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council, and were all previously independent councillors.
Led by Nigel Farage, Reform UK has five MPs and one MS (Laura Anne Jones, who defected to the party in July having formerly been a Welsh Conservative).
In a joint statement, the councillors said: "We're delighted to be joining the only party that is putting our left-behind communities first.”
Cllr Knightly, who runs Knightly’s Fun Park in Towyn, added: “After years of the two leading parties letting down our local communities and local family business year on year, making it harder for hard working families to survive and thrive, I felt it was time to change.
“Our hospital is on its knees and the worst in the area, and our county councils are cutting services and increasing taxes.
“This will not change overnight, but we all need to pull together to make a difference, and with Reform, I think we can.”
Cllr Mulvaney added: "I am so disappointed with the other political parties, that I feel Reform UK is the only way forward, and we need to bring the greatness back into Great Britain."
Cllrs Knightly and Corry represent the town council’s Kinmel Bay ward, and Cllrs Mulvaney and Johnson its Towyn ward.
In the 2022 local elections, Cllrs Knightly and Johnson stood as Conservative candidates, and Cllr Corry as an independent, for Conwy County Borough Council, but were not elected.
Cllr Mulvaney also stood as a Conservative candidate in the 2022 elections, but only for Towyn and Kinmel Bay; she subsequently left the party.
