A community garden in Prestatyn is flourishing with lavender thanks to a helping hand from a nearby housebuilder.
The Friends of Coronation Gardens, volunteers who help care for the green space on Station Road, received a £500 donation from Castle Green Homes through its Mission Green funding scheme, linked to its Sŵn y Môr development on Gronant Road.
Carol Holliday, treasurer of The Friends of Coronation Gardens, said: "We applied to Mission Green as we wanted to replace the aged and untidy border plants in the centre flower bed.
"With the funding we’ve been able to purchase miniature lavender bushes which we’ve used to create a sustainable edging to the bed and protect the plants in the centre."
The donation was one of 11 Mission Green grants awarded in the Prestatyn area by Castle Green Homes, a developer based in St Asaph.
Sian Pitt, sales director at Castle Green Homes, said: "The Friends of Coronation Gardens are all volunteers who give their time to help ensure that this community space looks blooming lovely all year round.
"We were pleased to be able to support their efforts with a donation towards the cost of new plants."
Other recipients of the Mission Green scheme included Big Pool Wood volunteers, Cosy Craft Club, Denbighshire Play Rangers, Fins Swim School, Helping Homeless North Wales, Ysgol Clawdd Offa, Little Explorers and Friends, Prestatyn in Bloom, and Ysgol Gronant.
The Mission Green funding is separate from wider community investment provided by Castle Green through planning agreements.
The company built 291 homes in the financial year ending March 31, 2024, with a turnover of £91 million, and has set a target of delivering 600 homes in the current year.
Castle Green has also set out plans to reduce its carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2030.
It has offset residual emissions for the 2022-23 period to achieve carbon net-zero status, which the company says it will maintain.
As part of its digital innovation, the company has introduced Willow, a digital new homes assistant.
The digital transformation of the business earned recognition at the Housebuilder Awards, Marketing Week Awards, and Construction Marketing Awards.
