RHYL High School is to close on the day of the funeral of Angela Shellis, it has been confirmed.
Ms Shellis, who was a teaching assistant at the school, died aged 45 on Friday, October 24 following an early-hours incident in the Morfa area of Prestatyn.
Her son, Tristan Roberts, 18, of Coniston Drive, has been charged with her murder.
The funeral for Ms Shellis will take place on Friday, December 12 – on that day, headteacher Philip Collins said, the school will be closed.
In a letter to parents, shown to the Journal, Mr Collins wrote: “We have received confirmation that the funeral of Ms Shellis will take place on Friday, December 12.
“As a mark of respect to Ms Shellis and her family, and to enable as many staff as possible to attend the funeral, I have made the decision that I will close the school to pupils on that day.
“This decision has been supported by the governing body and by the local authority.
“On that day pupils will be able to access work online via Google Classrooms. More information on this will follow in the coming days.
“Any pupil who is entitled to receive a free school meal, a grab bag of food will be available for collection from the school site between 11.30am and 12.30pm on that day.
“I appreciate this will have impact on childcare for some families on that day, but I am hoping that you have been given enough time to make appropriate arrangements.
“This has been a challenging time for the school, and I thank you in advance for your support.”
Since Ms Shellis’ death, a GoFundMe page set up in her memory by her sister, Sarah Gunther, has raised £6,380.
These funds will be put towards funeral and memorial costs.
A spokesperson for the family said: “Angela was a loved daughter, sister, mum and aunty and will be sadly missed.”
