A MAN from Kinmel Bay who spat at one police officer and kicked out at another then breached his suspended sentence by not attending a probation appointment.
Tyler Lewis, 24, of Bodelwyddan Avenue, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, suspended for 20 months in August, after admitting two counts of assaulting an emergency worker by beating.
But he returned to Mold Crown Court yesterday (November 19), where he admitted breaching his suspended sentence.
Representing himself, Lewis said he “didn’t realise” he had an appointment on October 10.
Prosecutor Jade Tufail said Lewis has attended five probation appointments since that date, and has “fully engaged” at all of them.
Recorder Greg Bull, presiding over the hearing, refrained from activating Lewis’ suspended sentence, but ordered him to complete 30 hours’ unpaid work.
He told Lewis: “I don’t think you’re taking the suspended sentence seriously enough. I don’t think you realise the peril that you’re in.
“It’s not good enough. You’re just making things worse for yourself.
“You must keep up with this order - if you don’t, you’ll be in trouble. Please see sense, and do what you know has to be done.
“Keep in touch with the probation service. They’re trying to help you.”
At his sentencing hearing in August, Mold Crown Court heard that officers had come to arrest Lewis amid concerns for his own welfare.
His actions were described as “violent and disgusting" by one of the officers he assaulted.
Lewis later said he could not remember the incident, which happened while he was subject to a suspended sentence for a previous offence.
