A WOMAN whose body was discovered in Prestatyn on Friday morning (October 24) has been named by police as that of 45-year-old local Angela Shellis.
Later that afternoon, an 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder as an investigation remains ongoing, with a heavier police presence in the town.
Here is a timeline of key events since the tragic discovery of the body:
- October 24: Police are called to the Dawson Drive area shortly before 8.40am after member of the public reports finding a body
- Area is cordoned off by police with people told to avoid area
- At 1.20pm, a man is arrested in the Coniston Drive area of Prestatyn on suspicion of murder, with police increasing its presence in the town
- Later on that afternoon, police confirm the suspect is an 18-year-old male and that they are not actively looking for anyone else in connection with the incident
- October 26: Police identify the body as that of 45-year-old resident Angela Shellis
- Police continue to conduct interviews with 18-year-old suspect and appeal to members of the public who may have been in the Morfa area near the football fields to contact them with any information
DCI Andy Gibson said: “The family are being supported by specialist trained officers and ask their privacy is respected during this tragic time.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in or around the Morfa area near to the football fields on Friday 24th October between 0300hrs and 0830 hours.
“Whether you believe you have anything of significance to offer the investigation, it is imperative that we identify any persons in the area during these key times.
“An 18-year-old male remains in custody and detectives continue to interview him.
"A warrant of further detention was granted at Mold Magistrates Court on Saturday 25th October to allow us to keep the male in custody, whilst the investigation continues.
“I urge people not to speculate about the incident online. If you were in the area during these times please contact North Wales Police quoting reference C165084.”
