THERE wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the son of the late Mike Peters played 'Wonderwall' during a retreat for breast cancer survivors in Dyserth.
The event, held at The Chapel by Jules Peters — Love Hope Strength Foundation co-founder and breast cancer survivor — aims to give women hope, help them rebuild their strength, and remind them they are loved.
Mike, frontman of The Alarm and husband to Jules, is survived by their sons Dylan, 21, and Evan, 18. Mike would often pop by the retreats to sing for survivors and lift their spirits.
Jules said: "Over the years, whenever there was a breast cancer retreat at the Chapel, Mike would always sweetly pop by and sing a song, connect with the survivors and generally put everyone at ease. It was a kindness that Mike had, making sure everyone was ok. On Sunday, October 12, Evan approached me and suggested that he should step into Mike’s shoes, metaphorically, and sing for the breast cancer survivors.

"Our precious 18 year old, who misses his Dad every second of every day, stood at the foot of the Waterfalls and explained how his Dad taught him how to play ‘Wonderwall’ and how Wonderwall characterised his Dad’s rebellion against non Hodgkin’s lymphoma when he was diagnosed, an unimaginable 30 years ago, back in the height of Britpop in 1995.
"There wasn’t a dry eye at the Waterfalls. It was a very special moment in time."
The Red is situated next door to the Chapel which was converted into five luxury apartments by Jules and her family.
Mike died aged 66 on April 29 - more than 30 years after he was first diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) at the age of 36.
On May 29, thousands of friends, family, fans, and members of the music world descended on Dyserth to say a final farewell to Mike.
