One year ago today, photos were shared of the Northern Lights being spotted in the skies over Prestatyn, Rhyl and Llandudno the night before.
Members of the Journal’s Camera Club captured the astronomical phenomena, also known as the Aurora Borealis, which was visible to the naked eye from Prestatyn.
Steph James-Baker took photos from her house in Prestatyn, adding: “We’re in the Llandaff Drive area, not far from the Ffrith beach.
She added: “It was amazing to see the colours dancing across the sky - we have seen them once before in Reykjavik, Iceland but it was incredible to be able to see them on my doorstep.”
The Northern Lights are caused when atoms in the Earth's upper atmosphere combine with charged particles from the sun, creating the vibrant display.
More frequently, they are seen at higher latitudes and places like Alaska, Canada, and Antarctica, which are closer to the Earth’s poles.
The Met Office says that to improve your chances of seeing the Northern Lights, you need look in a northerly direction on a clear night with no cloud cover.
