THE castle that played host to ITV's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! is looking for news home for its red telephone box and...a UFO
Gwrych Castle, near Abergele, is seeking a new homes for the items in preparation for the next stage of the castle's restoration.
A statement from the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust said: "It’s not every day that you find a UFO and a red telephone box looking for a new home but today is that day. As we prepare for the next exciting stage of the castle’s restoration, we are making space along our visitor route and parting with two unique items.
"We’re very limited on interior space, so once we begin works on the main building, space is needed in these areas for event and shop space."
The telephone box was originally bought and used for I’m a Celebrity in 2020 and 2021 whilst the show was hosted in the UK due to the pandemic. The prop was used by campmates to win treats by answering a question during the Castle Coin Challenges.
The UFO featured in a cross-marketing Christmas campaign with a major retailer.
Many took to social media to urge the trust to keep the red telephone box.
One person said: "Is the phone box for sale? That's TV history right there!! Is there nowhere else on the site, possibly next to reception on the car park, that it can go? Put a picture of Ant & Dec inside it, making a phone call?"
Another commented: "It's a shame you can't put them somewhere as they are part of the new history of the castle."
The trust responded: "Once the work on the main building begins, we will need space for a shop and event space. The phone box is very heavy so it is tricky for us to work around unfortunately."
In March, planning permission was granted for the 'Castle Core Project' at Gwrych Castle. The project will see the installation of roofs and floors within the main building, making it water-tight for the first time in more than 30 years.
