LLANDUDNO Pier is closed to the public today.

The beloved Victorian pier opened in 1877 and is the longest in Wales, and one of the longest in the United Kingdom.

It was also named 'Pier of the Year' by members of the National Piers Society earlier this year.

But the pier is closed today (Thursday, September 18), with the arcades, Ferris wheel and shops also shutting.

This is due to a "family bereavement", a spokesperson for the pier said.

A notice on social media read: "Llandudno Pier will be closed this Thursday, 18th September (including Arcades, Wheel and Shops) as a mark of respect to a recent family bereavement.

"Thank you in advance for your understanding."
