Wave of regeneration brings new attractions to Rhyl

Major investments and new attractions have begun to transform the seafront, with the recently opened Queen’s Market already drawing thousands of visitors.

The market, which blends modern design with local character, offers independent food outlets, pop-up events, and community activities.

Craig Sparrow, chair of the Rhyl Neighbourhood Board, said: "It’s fantastic to see so much positive change happening across the promenade.

"This progress is about more than buildings and infrastructure – it’s about pride, aspiration and unlocking Rhyl’s potential as a great place to live, work and visit.

"These projects are a direct result of community input and collaborative leadership."

Other parts of the promenade are also seeing significant development.

Work is underway on a new Drift Park on West Parade, set to replace the old children’s play area with modern, inclusive facilities for families and young people.

Sandra Sharp, programme manager for the Ein Rhyl/Our Rhyl campaign, said: "This is just the beginning.

"We’re seeing real energy and momentum building in Rhyl, and we’re working to ensure local people are central to the journey.

"The vibrant new murals that will span the coastal defences are an example of this local collaboration and showcase the strength of local creativity and contribution.

"From new spaces and businesses to better amenities and a more welcoming environment, Rhyl’s transformation is something we can all be proud of and will be a firm foundation for the £20 million 10-year regeneration strategy the board is leading on."

Recent improvements include the reopening of the SC2 water park.

Alongside this, the major programme of sea defence improvements has been completed, strengthening Rhyl’s coastline against the effects of climate change and flood risk.

The Ember Lounge has also reopened, and Merlin Cinemas has taken over the former Vue cinema, maintaining a big-screen experience in the town.

Additional seafront works are planned in the coming weeks by Denbighshire County Council.

Funded by the Coastal Defence Project and Shared Prosperity Transitional Year 4 Funding, these will include repainting and replacing corroded handrails, improving outdoor seating areas, landscaping, and refurbishing decorative steel structures.

The Rhyl Neighbourhood Board, which leads the Ein Rhyl/Our Rhyl campaign, continues to gather community feedback as part of its long-term vision for the area.
